Central Focus
The unit will combine two core content areas for an 11th grade classroom: English Language Arts and History. The unit will also integrate a Cooperative Learning Activity, Service Learning Activity, and visual and performing arts elements. The topic of the 1920s is an important area of study for both English and History at this level; the economic, social and political events during this time are important to understand in history, but also lay an important foundation of time and setting for the novel the 11th graders will be studying: The Great Gatsby.
In History, students will research primary source documents about important names and events that took place in this decadent decade. In English, students will use their research to help predict and understand F. Scott Fitzgerald and his classic novel The Great Gatsby.
We look forward to sharing this thrilling decade with our students.
