GET OUT AND VOTE!
During the 1920's, a main social issue was women's suffrage. We learned in both English and US history about the fight for the right to vote and how the political spectrum changed once women entered the realm. After learning so much about the struggle to earn a vote, students discussed how voting today is taken for granted by many younger people. Because of this we have decided to focus on voter education for our service learning. To complete this assignment students will get involved in their community and encourage people to get to and vote. They will be active on their campus to provide eligible students with information on registering to vote, where to find credible information to cast an informed vote, as well as where to vote when the time comes.
How do I register?Students will go around their campus and community and provide information on how to register to vote. They will complete a sign up sheet telling us who they have talked to, where they met this person, and the information they provided.
Who should I vote for? Many people are influenced by their parents, their friends, and the media. But what information is credible? Students will find credible places for information and share those sources with the voters they are talking to.
Where do I vote?Based on information received from voters during discussions, students will inform voters on places within the community where they can cast their vote when the time comes. This will hopefully encourage people to get out and participate.
