After diving into the vocabulary and the different people from this time period, students will be able to pick their favorite celebrity from a list provided by the teacher. In their English class, students will work with Ms. Hunter and write backgrounds on their celebrity. Then, in their history class with Ms. Eichlin, students will participate in a mix and mingle 1920's "party" where they will assume the identity of their celebrity and mingle with their peers. Students, depending on their celebrity, will be making announcements throughout the party and sharing a primary source with the class. For example, a student who is playing Charlie Chaplin might announce the release date of his new film and show a primary source clip. Another student who is playing Bessie Smith might share one of her songs from her upcoming album with the class while a student playing F Scott Fitzgerald might read a passage from The Great Gatsby.
During the party, students will be tasked with completing a "bingo" type graphic organizer. After meeting a celebrity they will ask for their autograph in the box on the graphic organizer associated with that person. Students must meet all celebrities in the 1hr time allotted.
